Common symptoms of heartburn are food rushing back to the mouth, burning feeling in the chest and pressure or pain behind the breastbone after eating a hot spicy meal. Such discomforts can last up to two hours sometimes. Bitter taste in the mouth with frequent bursts of salty tasting saliva called water brash, accompanied with severe pain in the chest are also common symptoms.
