[edit] Why should I be aware of this?

A series of purification techniques are used in Panchakarma treatment to expel from the body the toxins which cause the disease. It also restores health and balance to the body and gives a rejuvenating experience.

The five different treatments that are involved in panchakarma are

  • Vamana - controlled vomiting,
  • Virechana - which involves the use of laxatives to purge the small intestine,
  • Basti - or use uses enemas to clean the large intestine.
  • Nasya treatments – in which herbs are applied through the nose
  • Raktamokshana – which requires therapeutic bloodletting.

This series of five therapies help remove deep rooted stress and illness causing toxins from the body while balancing the doshas.

[edit] All about Panchkarma

Every human being, according to Ayurveda, is unique and his psychosomatic temperament or constitution is determined by the three Dosha (humors) - Vata (ether plus air), Pitta (fire plus water) and Kapha (water plus earth) - called the Tridosha.

The internal environment, which is constantly reacting to the external environment, is governed by Vata -Pitta -Kapha (V-P-K). The wrong diet, habits, lifestyle, incompatible food combinations (e.g. milk and fish, melons and grain, yogurt and meat or cooked honey etc.), seasonal changes, repressed emotions and stress factors can all act either together or separately to change the balance of V-P-K, and as a result produce Ama (toxins). To stop the further production of Ama, Ayurvedic literature suggests placing the patient on a proper diet together with an appropriate lifestyle, habits and exercise, and administering a proper cleansing program such as Panchakarma

[edit] Natural purification

Purification procedures proved that through Ayurvedic natural purification toxic substances such as polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB's) and pesticides from the body can be successfully eliminated without damaging side effects. Studies have demonstrated that classical Panchakarma treatment eliminated up to 50% of the detectable toxins in the blood.

[edit] Chemicals injure health

Most of the toady's environmental toxins are lipophils that accumulate in the fatty tissues of the body. These fat-soluble toxins are associated with a range of diseases such as hormone disruption, immune system suppression, allergies, diseases of the liver and skin, various types of cancer, neurological illness, reproductive disorders and deformities.

Several modalities in the Ayurveda detoxification procedure use non-toxic, lipophilic materials, such as clarified butter in the oleation phase and herbalized sesame oil in the massage and enema treatments. These traditional methods are believed to sequentially loosen and remove lipid soluble toxicants from their deposited sites and stimulate their elimination.
