Talk:HIV and AIDS
From CopperWiki
Oh my god ! we in India are living with laws that were made for us in 1860??? Why?
Lord Macauley introduced the antisodomy statute in October 6, 1860. What's happened to us. According to the law, sexual acts "against the order of nature" remain illegal here. Who decides what's normal? Action was taken and some rather uncomfortable discoveries were made in 1994 when two thirds of India's largest prison had participated in homosexual activity, that everyone sort of woke up. So AIDS and HIV were on the rampage in the prison..the best things came out of the closet then. Janak Raj Jai, apparently a Gandhian socialist, filed a petition saying that decriminalising homosexual activity would have upset Mahatma Gandhi!!! So what does one say to people who believe it's wrong to love and be loved and the quest for happiness a criminal offense....Even the manusmriti which most "modern liberated women" have a problem with seems homophobic, but in fact is more concerned with the loss of virginity that renders a young woman unworthy of marriage than of the gender of the partners.
I read this beautifully written article about Homosexuality in Ancient India . It would be great if you could read it too.
