Talk:Toothpaste

Did you know that you can OD on tooth hygiene? Over enthusiastic brushing works in reverse, dentists say. Brushing more than thrice a day, over two minutes at a time and with a hard or medium brush -- actually strips the enamel. This makes teeth sensitive to hot, cold, sweet and sour foods and may even result in cavities!
[edit] How to recycle used toothpaste tubes?
I've been wondering for sometime how I can actually recyle my used toothpaste tubes? Any ideas would be most welcome. I find that whenever I end up recyling something it just looks plain shoddy. Some of the old toothpastes still use the metal tubes while most of the new ones use the plastic tubes which apparently are made from three basic materials, aluminum, plastic, and glue. I did a google search and found that the tubes have outer and inner layers of polyethylene, a plastic, with a layer of aluminum foil glued between them.
The companies that sell this stuff say that the inner plastic layer does not react chemically with the active ingredients in toothpaste (I'm a born sceptic). Now the question is first of all the packaging of the stuff which is aluminum (obtained from bauxite ore) and plastic (from oil and natural gas)
Even the herbal toothpastes i see around me have this kind of packaging, I've been contemplating going back to "daatun" or the young stems of the neem tree but the thought of all that effort is terrifying.
So now what!!
