Talk:Electronic Smog
From CopperWiki
Hi, what else can we do to minimise Electronic Smog in our homes? Will it help to switch off all appliances not in use? Or will the wires still generate magnetic fields that will affect us adversely?
[edit] It affects even when nothing is turned on
Wiring creates electrical fields, one component of the smog, even when nothing is turned on. And all electrical equipment - from TVs to toasters - give off another one, magnetic fields. The fields rapidly decrease with distance but appliances such as hair dryers and electric shavers, used close to the head, can give high exposures. Electric blankets and clock radios near to beds produce even higher doses because people are exposed to them for many hours while sleeping.
Perhaps strangest of all, there is increasing evidence that the electronic smog causes some people to become allergic to electricity, leading to nausea, pain, dizziness, depression and difficulties in sleeping and concentrating when they use electrical appliances or go near mobile phone masts. Some are so badly affected that they have to change their lifestyles.
[edit] How does one get to know that one is suffering from over exposure?
How does one get to know that one is suffering from exposure to computer and mobile phone radiation. I've heard recently that crystal therapy helps. Though I really don't know much about this form of therapy, has it actually ever worked???
Apparently even something like qigong and tai chi help as they harden the "energy shield". The thing is, that the magnetic field affects your brain waves, so how does one actually absorb the radiation before it reaches one? I saw a couple of ads online about Organite which supposedly helps with electrical & energetic field.
Maybe someone has experiences with some of the above?
[edit] Giving my own question some thought
Giving it considerbale thought and ofcourse some serious google searching I've come across a couple of things i've got on how most of us can reduce the Electronic Smog around us.
- if you have a mobile: get one with a very low radation. Switch it off when you don't need it, especially at night. Use it only when you have to and
don't make long phonecalls from it. Try to keep it away from you- put it far away on a table instead of wearing it in your pocket all time. You can find the radiation intensity of most mobile phones on www.handywerte.de (the site is in german;so use google translation which is pretty awful) I don't know if there is a similar site in english). The lowest phones are often some older ones, you can get them rather cheap on ebay. The new ones can have incredibly high values even though they should be better, the companies just don't care...
- for normal phone: get one with a cable. The wireless ones use the same radiation as mobiles, and they are sending 24/7, even when you don't use them and when the phone is on its base station.
- computer: don't use wireless lan, but make a cable connection. If you have a laptop with integrated w-lan, switch the function off whenever you don't need
it. if you're around people running w-lan-router or computer if possible ask the people to switch their w-lan off. Or try to keep far away from it.
- get a flat screen.
- W-lan, mobiles and wireless phones (and microwaves;-) )all use the same radiation, but at a different frequency. W-lan has the highest frequency, wireless phones have the lowest. For me it was interesting to get to know the thing with the different frequencies, because it explained why I react a lot stronger to w-lan than to normal mobiles and why I'm rather tolerant to wireless phones.
- For getting rid of the effects: I've been reading quite a bit ont he net about this and frankly getting a bit sceptical about all these things that claim to reduce radiation or its effects on the body. I guess most of them cost a lot and don't help anything. There is a german test-magazine (www.oekotest.de) that testedsome of them with exactly that result: very few of them were really helpful.
- Get outside and move.
- What kind of effect has the radiation on you? Do you feel a difference between normal computer radiation and w-lan/mobile?
