CopperWiki links

From CopperWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

It is important to link CopperWiki articles. These links allow users to access related information. They also allow the reader the choice to access required information or bypass it -- depending on his or her requirement. It also avoids duplication of information. For example, an article on fish mentions omega-3 fatty acids and so do the articles on oregano and Super Foods. Explaining omega-3 fatty acids in all three articles is cumbersome, contradicts the very purpose of CopperWiki, which is all about creating awareness and empowering people with complete information to make choice.

[edit] What terms or set of terms should become a link?

The best way to learn more about linking is to look at some of our existing articles, preferrably our star articles. If you are are still confused whether a particular term should be made a link, then take a look at What is CopperWiki? and What CopperWiki is not and the purpose of CopperWiki. Ask, "Would an article on the topic be useful in creating awareness and living a more reposnible life; Would it help people make a more informed choice?"

[edit] How to link

When you want to make a link to another CopperWiki page you have to put it in double square brackets, like this:

Trial room = Trial room If you want the display text of the link to have a different title, you can do so by adding the pipe "|" divider (SHIFT + BACKSLASH on English-layout and other keyboards) followed by the alternative name. For example:

potatoes = potatoes

You can make a link to a specific section of a page:

Purpose of CopperWiki = Purpose of CopperWiki

[edit] Redirecting articles

Please check your links to ensure that the links point to the correct article. For example, a link to blood diamonds might need to be redirected to lead to the actual article on Blood Diamonds. This can be done by opening the edit page Blood diamonds and selecting the word Blood Diamonds and pressing #R or

#REDIRECT Blood Diamonds.

[edit] Categories

It is important to categorise your article. Categorisation makes it easy to organise articles and to search articles. To categorise an article, type , and put the name of the category between the colon and the brackets. Note: The first alphabet of all the words is in caps.

To make a link to a Category page (for example, as a reference for further research), simply put a colon (:) at the beginning of the "Category" tag, like this:

:Category:Health And Spirituality

The above code would produce the following: Category:Health And Spirituality

It is very important to put in the correct categories so that other people can easily find your work. The best way to find which categories to put in is to look at pages on similar subjects, and check which categories they use. For example if you write an article about a type of fruit, you may look at an article on another type of fruit to see which categories could be appropriate. For more information refer to the Categories page.
